Notre Dame Football’s NFL Draft History

Notre Dame's NFL Draft legacy boasts decades of producing impactful players, showcasing the Fighting Irish's enduring influence on professional football's biggest stage.

Notre Dame has had over 500 players drafted in the NFL Draft dating back to 1936.  Of those picks, 69 of them have been selections in the first round of the draft – the third most of any school in college football history.  Five (5) former Notre Dame players have also been selected 1st overall in the draft which ties for 1st all-time with Oklahoma, Georgia, and Southern Cal.

Notre Dame has produced 68 First Round picks in the NFL Draft as of 2023 with the most recent being Kyle Hamilton by the Baltimore Ravens. The Fighting Irish are expected to add to that total in 2024 with offensive tackle Joe Alt who figures to be selected in the top 10.

Notable first round selections who have gone on to have illustrious careers are Jerome Bettis, Tim Brown, Alan Page, Paul Hornung, Luther Bradley, Ross Browner, Ken McAfee, and Bryant Young.

The Fighting Irish have produced numerous later round selections who have become NFL great as well. One such example is Joe Montana, who was chosen by the San Francisco 49ers as the 82nd overall pick in 1979. Montana’s illustrious career, which includes four Super Bowl victories and two NFL MVP awards, firmly established him as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history.
