Charlie Weis announced yesterday, that former Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Jon Tenuta will join the Irish coaching staff, to replace current DB coach Bill Lewis, who will be retiring to have double hip replacement surgery. Tenuta is widely considered to be one of the best defensive minds in college football, and his aggressive defenses had given the Notre Dame offense fits the past two years. It is speculated that he will help coach the defensive backs and linebackers, in addition to assisting Corwin Brown with the defense.
This is an exciting pickup for Notre Dame, as Jon is viewed as the type of coach who can come in and make an impact right away. Bill Lewis, who had earned the reputation of being an excellent coach and recruiter himself, will be staying on in a position with the Athletic Community Relations staff. Lewis had been coaching for 44 years.
