When asked if there was anyone that Darrin Walls reminded him of at corner, Brown gave the junior corner a pretty lofty comparison – former NFL standout CB Troy Vincent.
You really don’t know how high his ceiling is. I’ve been around some pretty good corners, played with them, coached them – so he’s got a high ceiling. He’s got to press the issue to get there.
“His style of play kind of reminds me of Troy Vincent. I watched Troy a lot in college and then in the league. He’s got a lot of tools, so we’ll see.”
For those unfamiliar with Vincent. He was a 5 time Pro Bowler and 3 time All Pro in the NFL during his 8 seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He also spent 4 years with the Dolphins, 3 with the Bills, and 1 with the Redskins. He had 47 career interceptions over his 16 year career.
This will certainly be an important year for Walls. He started every game last year and the best thing you could say about his performance was that he didn’t stand out. For a corner, that is a very good thing. He wasn’t on the highlight reels in a negative way trailing a play and opposing offenses really didn’t pick on him the way they have some starter corners for ND over the past several years.
Not a bad comparison for Walls.
