Charlie Weis addressed the media on Tuesday and had an update on the health of starting wide receiver David Grimes and starting right guard Chris Stewart.
“I think Chris is going to go today. David was going to go get another test on his back today because he’s stiff again. We’re going to see where we are with that one.
That one I don’t know the answer to yet with David. Chris, I know, was going to go today. I held him yesterday from the running. That really upset him. But he’ll be practicing today.”
Trevor Robinson filled in for Stewart in the second half against Michigan and really held his own, but it is nice to see that Stewart should be back. We had some success running behind the right side of the offensive line where Sam Young and Stewart combine to top the scales at over 660 lbs against Michigan. Stewart is also one of the more improved players on the team this year making getting him back very good for his development.
With Grimes limited against Michigan, freshman Michael Floyd saw extensive action. He was targeted on a couple of deep passes early, but couldn’t come down with any (although one drew a pass interference). The rain altered Notre Dame’s game plan a bit or I think we would have seen some more plays drawn up for him. I seem to remember a freshman receiver for Notre Dame going into East Lansing in the third game of season not too long ago and ending up on the cover of Sports Illustrated the following week – could Saturday be a similar coming our party for Floyd? I think so.
