Yeatman to Be Charged for DUI

The news today regarding junior tight end Will Yeatman was not too good.  According to the Chicago Tribune, Yeatman will now be sentenced for his spring DUI arrest.  According to the report.

“Because [Yeatman] failed to comply with this term of the agreement, he will be sentenced on the charge of operating while intoxicated forthwith, and both the state and the defendant will be free to make arguments to the court regarding the appropriate sentence,” the St. Joseph County, Ind., prosecutor’s office said in a press release Wednesday. “The Court will set a date for the sentencing hearing.”

The operating while intoxicated charge, a Class C misdemeanor, carries a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail. Yeatman also possibly faces sanctions from Notre Dame’s Office of Residence Life.

Yeatman’s career with the Irish football and lacrosse teams remains in flux. Irish football coach Charlie Weis said he would hold Yeatman out of game competition until his legal matters were resolved.

Oddly enough, Yeatman is still listed as the #2 tight end on the official depth chart for this weekend, but it seems clear that he won’t be playing this weekend and who knows beyond that.   With Luke Schmidt out indefinitely, Notre Dame will have just Kyle Rudolph and Joseph Fauria as scholarship tight ends this weekend.

  1. Bleed, I agree 100% with you. I was yanking your chain, I wanted to see if you where total graduated extreme left winger.

As for Yeatman, Not a good example for the rest of the team.

By the way bleed, I am old enough to be your DAD. However, I think your DAD did a good job.

  2. JC- I turned it off honestly after the 5th inning. I dont Boo ever. Makes me angry when fans do towards their home team and your right Cubs fans were wrong at that game IMOP.

Ohh and I wanted to say yes, yes, that I was very careless at times and didnt get caught. I wanst a football player with the spotlight either. I think of it like this. Yeatman got himself in trouble for the DUI. I have heard the story. He was driving on the sidewalks in his car waisted. Mistake. Punished right. He gets probation which I see as a 2nd chance to make up for it and not violate the terms of his probation. For some odd reason he felt he could go to a large off campus party and drink when he is only 20 and still under probation. I mean if this party was in Turlte Creek (Party spot for ND, Saint Mary’s, Ho Cro students) ok I cant see him getting busted but does it make it still wrong or right? IMOP its wrong just because of the fact he had SO much on the line. He had a guilty charge for his DUI at stake and all the freedoms he had previous. I just see it as partying and boozing was more important than not getting into trouble (freedom, college) and the football team. Maybe I am wrong but I know if you are truely sorry for your mistakes you dont make them again.

  3. Bleed, Yes it is careless, however go back, were we careless? Yes we were, we just did not get caught because we were not football players.

Do you really think the meter maid is going to tackle either one of us to issue a j-walking ticket for the 6:00 o-clock news?

Does the punishment fit the 0.02 crime?

Sorry, no empathy here, I am a die hard Sox fan.

  4. PS. JC you cannot have my booze. I love my booze. It is helping me get through the Cubs losing game 1 and my crazy clients at work.

  5. I dont mind him drinking at ALL. I am only 26. I drank when I was underage all the time. I didnt make continous mistakes that put my freedom and football/college career in jeopardy. I wasnt given a free ride and I didnt screw it up. Like I said DUI, ok thats really bad, but can make up for it and not make any mistakes with booze here on out. If I do make a mistake I realize its my fault and I have cost myself a lot. I dont see how ND can keep him. I heard that he was driving on the sidewalk when he got his DUI. No, I dont think .02 is a big deal at all. I wouldnt care if it was .15 if he wasnt on probation and acted if he knew what was on line. I just dont think he cared IMOP.

  6. Back in the good old day’s when the drinking age was 18 in Michigan. All we had to do is head for Schula’s night club or Jay’s Bar just across the state line.

Ooooooops, I am showing my age. Hey, I agree with Frankie. Why? As long as he is not behind the wheel of a vehicle as a potential threat to society or mooning somebody or unruly behavior not becoming of an ND student – GIVE ME A BREAK.

If this micro infraction is so important then why not arrest all the people in South Bend walking out of a BAR in South Bend.

For it is UNIMAGINABLE those bar flys are anywhere near 0.02.

This is quite frankly, another CASE of $25,000 South Bend Police Officer(s) indulging in hatefulness and out of control ego on a $40,000+ ND student.

Bleed, I think I need to come over to your house and take all the beer in your frig and smash it on the sidewalk. Does that make me or you a bad guy?

This whole incident is a bad case of ACATALEPSIA.

  7. You guys are aware that its been rumored that Yeatman’s BAC level was around 0.02 right? That may or may not even be 1 full beer. I think it’s a joke that he this has even been a story. A 0.02 is 1 freaking beer. If every kid got charged with underage drinking for having 1 simple beer in college, every university would be out of business tomorrow.

  8. This will be an interesting test of Weis’ leadership. Yeatman clearly needs to be punished, but given the McAlarney precident, that might be the way to go. As a Catholic school, ND needs to show that following the rules is important. Integrity is important. But just as important is the opportunity to forgive. This could go either way, meaning Yeatman could give up on the whole thing. But I think ND should kick him out now, and give him an opportunity to work his way back. He’ll have to demonstrate better behavior and judgement though to earn his way back in. That would be my call, if I had one.

  9. What a waiste of talent. I know we all make mistakes. This guy has made quite a few when he knew the consequences were going to be a “GUILTY CHARGE”. Yeatman might actually have a serious problem with alcohol. Im not calling him a addict but what I mean by that is that alcohol causes him problems in his life. Drunk, buzzed, a sip, and possesion of the stuff gives this guy problems. He is given 40K+ a year for free. He needs to get straightened out. Football is no longer in the picture for him.
