Charlie Weis didn’t have much to say regarding the injury suffered by Michael Turkovich during the second half of today’s game against Stanford.
Q. Any Turkovich update?
COACH WEIS: I saw him hobbling around in there. I also saw Olsen going at halftime. Thought he was done. He ended up playing the second half. So we’ll just have to wait and see. I don’t know if it’s an ankle. I don’t know exactly what it is.
Turkovich’s body language on the sideline certainly suggested that the injury was at least someone serious because he looked pretty upset sitting on the bench. Turkovich has been a very pleasant surprise this year as he has handled the left tackle position about as good as anyone could have expected.
When Turkovich went out of the game, sophomore Matt Romine and not senior Paul Duncan came into the game. It will be interesting to see what Weis does if Turkovich is hurt badly and misses ny substantial time. Does he put in Romine or slide Duncan back to LT where he started most of last season? Duncan has been pretty much MIA so far this year so I would think if Turkovich misses any time, Weis would probably go with Romine.
Considering the struggles Turkovich faced last year on the field and the criticism he received throughout last season, it would be a shame if Turkovich’s injury cost him any time.
