Don’t know how much it means, but the SBT had a little blurb on Michael Turkovich’s injury on Sunday.
Senior left offensive tackle Mike Turkovich was carried from the field in the fourth quarter with an apparent knee injury and was on crutches after the game. Sophomore Matt Romine replaced him in the lineup and filled in nicely.
Turkovich told family members after the game he was fine, and Weis sort of echoed that sentiment.
If Turkovich is indeeed just fine, that would be excellent news for an offensive line which has now allowed just 5 sacks in 5 sacks this season. Turk has more than held his own at left tackle and has really played about as well as anyone could have expected for a converted guard.
Notre Dame will face a very fast and aggressive defense next week when they travel to Chapel Hill which makes Turkovich’s health a rather important subplot for this week.
Hope Turk is not that bad.
On another note this game in the second half is exactly why I complain about the Irish going soft and starting playing not to win but to keep from losing. Now it seems it is apparent the defense is playing conservative also once ND gets a 2 touch lead. This time the conservative play calling started early in the 3rd quarter. This mentality caught up w/ the Irish against Stanford. The motor is apparently no longer running when they go conservatve. Give Stanford credit however the comeback took the glow off an otherwise pretty impressive showing. It simply should not have ended that close. The failure to play 60 minutes and close out the game will come back to bite them. ND is simply not good enough to even consider going soft at anytime during the game. The coaching staff by promoting this soft approach and not taking advantage of each and every possession is a discredit to the players and is woefully inhibiting a faster development of these players talents and confidence levels which they will need if they truly want to take the next step.
i saw turko getting carted to the gug about 1 min before the end of the game, and i yelled to him Turk get better buddy! and he didnt look to happy…
