Series History

The teams first met in 1981, and Florida State currently owns the overall record at 5-2.  While the rivalry is relatively modern, the series has been quite heated, due largely to the 1993 matchup, which featured #1 FSU (9-0) and #2 Notre Dame (9-0).  Notre Dame prevailed 31-24 and was named #1 in the country, only to fall the following week to Boston College on a last second field goal, keeping them out of the championship game.  Florida State would go on to defeat Nebraska to take the National Championship, while Notre Dame defeated Texas A&M in the Cotton to finish #2. The teams last met in the 2011 Champs Sports Bowl, with Florida State winning 18-14.

  1. Think Big. Dream Big.

This can be a very big Notre Dame moment, and has the potential to be a game that is talked about for decades to come.

Notre Dame has won these kind of big games before ESPN, twitter, the www, and Facebook were invented.

The nattering nabobs have freedom of speech, but loyal sons of Notre Dame have no ear or time for them, as they prepare to help this team wake echoes and shake thunder.

The day will be more enjoyable if one focuses on Notre Dame, and not the travail of the opponent, with all the muckraking.

This game can make Oklahoma 2012 and USC 2012 pale by comparison. Those were harbingers, indicators of things to come, but the 2012 program was still familiarizing itself with winning and success.

    It is different this time.

This is the moment, and the coaches and players will not avoid it. And neither should we. The word “fan” means someone who is “enthusiastically devoted” to something. You are entitled to hold back, to sound cautionary notes, to express doubt. By so doing you have disqualified yourself from being a Notre Dame “fan.” And Webster says so.

Devotion is not passing interest or agreeing to watch
“Enthusiastically” redounds at the emotional level, not the rational.

Literally or figuratively stand up and cheer.
    Be counted.
    Have no regrets.
Be all in. The coaches and players are. Join them. Be a “fan”

    Wake echoes.

  2. That would be correct, since it’s a road game. Nice catch
