When the odds for this weekend’s game were released on Sunday, Notre Dame opened as a three point favorite by most sports books. As of Monday night, however, the line has moved drastically and NC State is now a 1 point favorite on most of those same sports books. Should that line hold, Notre Dame will be an underdog for the first time this season.
The line for this weekend’s game between Notre Dame and NC State has been all over the place in less than 48 hours since being released. Notre Dame opened a three point favorite before the line dropped quickly to +1 before bouncing back to +3 on most sports books all within a few hours on Sunday.
On Monday, the line continued to move in favor of NC State with the Wolfpack sitting at (-1) as of late Monday night. Some books still have this one as even, but more movement on the line looks likely. The line moving as much as it has in NC State’s favor tells us that all of the early money has been getting placed on the Wolfpack.
Despite it’s 2-3 record, Notre Dame has been a favorite in every contest this season. The Irish were 4.5 point favorites week one in Austin. In the home opener the Irish were four touchdown favorites over Nevada and covered with a 29 point win. The Irish were around a touchdown favorite against Michigan State and a three touchdown favorite against Duke but lost both games. Last weekend the Irish were 10 point favorites and covered with a 17 point win.
Being the underdog could be a motivating factor for the Irish this week coming off their much needed win in Met Life Stadium. Not that they should need much more motivation other than salvaging their season, but should they remain the underdog, it could help the coaches to keep their attention this week as they attempt more in-season adjustments and fixes for the problems that resulted in a 2-3 start to the season.
It pains me to admit this, but I can’t see the Irish winning this one. This next opponent is a better team than Syracuse, and the Irish struggled in that game. I hope I’m wrong. I’m still all Irish all of the time, but this looks like a Charlie Weis team. And I don’t blame the players (although some are under-performing).
The sloppy play, poor tackling, poor pass coverage, lack of a pass rush, under-performing O-line, and penalties are unacceptable. What did they work on in fall camp?
the acceptance of mediocrity from a great university is appalling
How much longer does Notre dame go with Brian kelly? Year 7 and we sit here with a 2and 3 record. The sad part is losing to inferior teams. The coaching is bad on this team. I hate to harp on this but if Notre dame had a really good coach they would. Be 5 and 0. This team has the talent to be at least a new years top 6 bowl team. Alabama, Ohio state, Clemson no. Just a notch below them with a really good coach.
“Underdog” is kind. Runt-of-the-litter mutt is more like it.
Underdog – Shmunderdog – our Irish gotta “let the dawgs out” on Saturday and dominate.
