Cleveland, OH (UHND.com) — Saint Ignatius wide receiver Robby Parris (6-4, 185) picked Notre Dame over Michigan today pushing Notre Dame’s commitment total to 9 thus far. Parris, teammate of fellow Irish commitment John Ryan, is the second wide receiver to commit to Charlie Weis and Notre Dame this year joining Barry Gallup.
Parris went into the summer camp circuit without offers from his top two choices — Notre Dame and Michigan. Shortly after returning home from the Michigan camp, Parris had the first offer he was looking for. The second offer didn’t take long to follow after Parris’ performance at the Notre Dame camp.
At 6’4” 185 lbs, Parris is a different receiver than Barry Gallup who stands 5’11” and weighs in at 175 lbs. Parris is more of a possession type receiver who lacks blazing speed. What Parris lacks in speed however he makes up in other areas such as in air adjustments, hands, and size.
Parris is good at using his size to his advantage and can make in air adjustments to make difficult catches. He shows good hands and pretty much catches anything thrown his way. He won’t be a big yards after the catch receiver, but he should fit into Weis’s system pretty well. Parris is able to find open space in zone coverage to get open — something that is important in Weis offense.
Parris is the 3rd commitment from Ohio and gives Notre Dame 5 commitments between the states of Ohio and Indiana alone this year. Parris joins teammate John Ryan and Kallen Wade as the Ohio recruits in this class.
