(UHND.com) — Notre Dame received its 16th commitment of the recruiting season in the form of Oklahoma City wide receiver/athlete George West. West, 5’8” receiver picked the Irish over Georgia Tech, Kansas State, Stanford, and Oklahoma State.
West is the 3rd commitment the Irish have received this week joined Leonard Gordon and Jashaad Gaines. Unlike Gaines and Leonard though, West has yet to visit Notre Dame officially. He will be visiting for the USC game.
The fact that he committed before his visit could mean that he was starting to feel the pressure of Notre Dame having 15 commitments prior to his pledge today. His commitment also leaves Notre Dame with only 9 spots remaining unless they can get some recruits through early admission.
West is in the mold of a lot of the Patriots receivers that Weis worked with in New England as a smaller, quick mold. He is listed at 5’8” with 4.5 speed. Weis didn’t use big receivers in New England and so far it appears he is going in that direction with Notre Dame recruiting.
West may not end up at wide receiver however when all is said and done. West is a talented athlete who has scored on punt returns, kick off returns, interceptions, and on passes this year for Northeast Academy in Oklahoma City.
The Irish now have potential wide receivers in this class with West joining Barry Gallup and Robby Parris. Notre Dame will most likely take one more wide receiver with big name recruits Terrance Austin and Richard Jackson still left on the board.
