Zeke Motta, who ESPN says attacks the line of scrimmage like a torpedo, committed to Notre Dame on Thursday giving the Irish 16 commitments so far this year. Motta is listed at 6’3″ and anywhere from 210 to 225 and while likely end up as an outside linebacker despite playing safety in high school.
Here’s what Irish Eyes had on Motta’s commitment:
“I’d say just aside from everything else, I fit there,” Motta said. “I fit the type of player they’re looking for, and along with that, I guess you could say they have a top-notch academic program and I’m looking forward to helping them make it to the National Championship.
“I’m excited to be a part of that.”
And this is what Blue and Gold had to say:
“Coach Weis and Notre Dame have always been clear with me about where I stand. I was told that when I attended camp in the summer if I had a good camp, I would come away with an offer. That is what happened. They told me the positives about Notre Dame and were up front about some of the challenges.
“In the end, some of the challenges they presented to me were positives for me. I like to be challenged academically and athletically, and I can’t wait to be just another member of the student body,” Motta said.
From the sounds of those quotes it sounds like Motta certainly has his head screwed on straight and is a perfect fit for Notre Dame both on and off the field. Speaking of on the field, here’s an except from ESPN’s Scouting Report of Motta.
Attacks the line of scrimmage like a torpedo; sometimes overruns the ball because of his aggressiveness. Hits like a ton of bricks; uses his weight well. Only weakness is pure speed, only runs a 4.6 forty. Great timing on the blitz. Times getting off on the ball perfectly and finds the open blitz lane. Will absolutely not be denied and will over, around or through blockers to get to the quarterback. Limited to the strong safety position due to speed. Very sound in underneath pass coverage; no problem in defending the curl/flat zone. Good anticipation on the pass and punishes the receiver if he catches the football.
Sounds to me like Motta will be a linebacker on the college level and I think he’ll be a pretty darn good one.
we are working on another very solid recruiting class…building talent and depth…it’s what wins national championships..i love it..Go Irish
