Notre Dame picked up a huge verbal commitment on Friday when five star wide receiver Shaquelle Evans committed to the Irish giving Notre Dame 17 verbal commitments on the year. Evans is the second wide receiver in this class along with Nyshier Oliver and is yet another Brian Polian recruit.
According to Irish Eyes, the fans were one thing that really separated Notre Dame from the pack.
“What made Notre Dame special to me was the fans. The fans were passionate and the students are supportive, they stand up the whole game carrying their team. Everybody was into the game. It was crazy to see that. A great college town. That helps out a lot when you have fans like that behind you.”
This is a great pickup for this class and just another outstanding job by Brian Polian who has turned himself into one of the premier recruiters in the entire country. Evans grew up in USC’s backyard and at one time he was considered a silent verbal to USC. His trip to Notre Dame, however changed that and today the Irish welcome him to this class with open arms.
Evans has the potential to be an instant impact player on the field for the Irish next year and is a perfect fit for this offense. With Evans now on board, the only offensive recruit left for the Irish this year is fullback Tyler Gaffney. There are still plenty of defensive recruits left though so these last couple months of recruiting should be pretty exciting.
No doubt Michael Floyd’s huge year made the Irish even more attractive. As long as we have guys like Floyd and Tate, that’s what you are going to have an easier time getting in terms of recruits. I mean they are recruiting everywhere including the lines, but right now our teams identity is a quick strike big play passing offense that sets up the run. We were down a few years on the defensive line but guys like Ian Williams and Ethan Johnson will change that, but it takes more time for that to happen than the skill positions. Ultimately look for their playing time as freshman and future stardom to go a long way toward getting more blue chip defensive lineman to South Bend again.
If Schwapp, Duncan, and McCarthy return for 5th years, Walls comes back next year, and Weis saves 1 scholarship for a walk-on, there’s only room for 2 more commits this year. Weis said he prefers veterans over recruits earlier this year, and all of those guys either are or have been starters.
Te’o or Jenkins and Bonds or Custis?
Whatever happens, it’ll be nice to actually reach the 85 scholarship limit for the first time since…
and I rushed also !!! Excellent. Watched your YouTube, all 9+ mins. Good luck Mr. Evans, you will do good. I was at the Purdue, drove 560 miles and love every min of the w/e !!!!!!!!! awesome, Go ND.
GREAT News! I rushed to get on my computer and find out. We need some D linemen now.
Great get by Polian. Now like David said, let’s go get some defensive linemen. Bonds and Custis should be our main priority.
He was a big commit. Unfortunately i expect to see some transfers next season from some of the WR that wont be playing.
ND needs to gear its recruiting to lineman on both sides of the ball. Thats how the SEC schools do it, they usually can run the ball all over teams.
