As if losing to Boston College this past weekend wasn’t bad enough. Now it seems like the Irish will lose out on defensive end prospect Davon Custis to the Eagles as well according to a report from Allen Wallace of SuperPrep.com today.
Custis, ranked as the No. 21 defensive end in the country by Scout.com, continues to favor Boston College big over Notre Dame, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Stanford. All of his favorites have offered and he says there’s about a “90 percent chance” he’ll sign with the Eagles.
“They are still my number one choice,” Custis said. “I still have a few visits to take so we’ll see, but the only school in my top five I’ve never been to is Stanford.”
Custis would be a really nice recruit for this class because he was the only chance we had for a pure speed rusher. It sounds like Custis will wait to take all of his visits and he is scheduled to visit Notre Dame for the banquet weekend on December 13 so there’s a chance we make up some ground here, but things certainly don’t look overly promising.
Wallace did have this quote from Custis in his report regarding Notre Dame though.
“I thought that as the season went on that Notre Dame would be great,” he said. “They’ve had some moments where they really look amazing, but at other times they really struggle. I think they’ll keep improving because they have great coaches and that’s another school where I think I could make an impact at.”
Custis echoes the thoughts of most Notre Dame fans with that statement.
We still have a shot as long as he visits and Charlie is still the coach.
This would be a big one for notre dame to take away. Hopefully they pull out all the stops when this kid comes to town in december
