Notre Dame offered a scholarship to Clay High School’s Daniel Smith this weekend according to a report on WSBT.
WSBT Sports has confirmed that Smith received a scholarship offer from Notre Dame over the weekend.
A source close to the family says Smith will choose the Irish over Purdue, Indiana and Central Michigan. An announcement is scheduled for Monday afternoon at Clay High School.
Looks like we might be about to get our second commitment for next year already from a local 4 star wide receiver prospect. Smith is listed at 6’4″, 205 according to his profile on Scout and has 4.6 speed according to Rivals. His offers so far are local with scholarships from Purdue and Indiana to go along with his offer from Notre Dame.
Here’s a little bit more info on Smith from WNDU’s report on Smtih announcing his college decision tomorrow.
Smith owns many Clay receiving records, the first of which he set as a freshman when he caught 10 catches against Penn in 2006.
This past season, he set the school’s record for receptions in a season (51) and career (127). He also has a school record 25 touchdown catches.
In his final game of 2008, Smith had 202 yards receiving against Lowell in the sectional championship.
Should Smith pick Notre Dame tomorrow it would be a pretty nice way to start the week and would hopefully show some of remaining prospects for 2009 that Notre Dame just might be on the rise.
