Huge news on Signing Day for the Irish. This morning things were looking pretty bleak for the Irish, but moments ago Charlie Weis landed the biggest Signing Day commitment in recent Notre Dame history when Manti Te’o signed his letter of intent to play for Notre Dame!
This is enormous news for Notre Dame and really adds a lot to this class.
With Jawanza Starling still on the board and considering Notre Dame, what looked like a pretty doom and gloom Signing Day could turn into a banner day for Weis and Notre Dame.
We’ll have plenty more later today.
it better be nothing less than 11 wins for this to be a success!! 9 wins is good enough???? wow have things changed!
I think this will just add to our success next year. We nowow have 3 great linebackers, jimmy will be better than ever throwing to tate and kamara. Aldridge and Allen will become the most dynamic duo, and i think Weiss will get his act together….and im giving us 9 wins next year…take it or leave it
“After a two year mission he will be eligible to re-sign with another team.” Can the Irish stipulate that he must return with them? And is this actually true?
IRISH FOREVER
thank you wil!!!
thanks. sorry for the “yelling”.
nepachris,
Nothing is really set in stone with the mission as far as I know. Weis addressed the mission today at the presser. I will have a post on it later/early tomorrow.
If Te’o serves an LDS mission, which he seems to indicate he will, it is a two year commitment. He will likely play a year and then leave after the end of the 2009 season and return to play in the 2011 season. If Te’o does do his church service, he’ll be emotionally, mentally, and spiritually much better, but he’ll likely be a mess physically. Some of these LDS athletes are able to get right back into it and some never do. Ben Olson is a prime example of this. Word on the street from his freshman year at BYU was that he was the best quarterback on the team and ripped BYU’s first team defense to shreds in practice (which may not be saying much), but he ended up being a total bust when he returned to college football. Speaking of Ben Olson, that’s another thing Wiess and ND better look out for if Te’o leaves for his church service. BYU (and other schools) will make anothr run at him – he’ll be eligible to resign with any team after being out for two years. If Weiss is smart, he’ll be in constant contact with Te’o and use local LDS leaders in the South Bend area to keep in contact with him too. This guy appears to be the real deal, but a lot can happen if he leaves ND for two years and his attention is turned completely away from football during that time.
FRANKIE!!!!!!!!!
all of you guys can bust on me if you want, but how do these missions work??? he is doing a 2 year mission after his freshman year and i am lost. will we get to see him with b. smith and k.neal after this year or is this year it? please help.
SHOCKED, I Just assumed the LB pipeline to USC would have been the end result, especially since I read some blogs that reported he had recently been seen on the Trojan campus conversing with Carroll? USC has been so dominant at that position its about time they lost one there.
Linebacking core vastly improved. Now hopefully Tyler Stockton will be the runstopper advertised and we are on the way. GO IRISH!!
adding T’eo with Brian Smith Kerry neal Fleming Filer McDonald, Motta and Calbrese. our linebacking core may be young but really talented. i reallylike this class. short on d line but still some quality pick ups all over the field. i cant wait for next season to start
Great news – this news made my day…hopefully Te’o will be able to have an impact his freshman year…
Toma a 3-star WR from Te’o’s HS. He said he’s going where ever Manti goes…
Great news…can we pick up a 18th? Any names…?
heck ya! I’m not sure that I’ve ever gotten this excited about a recruit before.. I think it’s the signing day drama.
Here’s what scout.com has to say about Te’o …
” Te’o has the build of a linebacker and the speed of a safety and hits like both. He excels in coverage, is great against the run and is what a college coach draws up when he puts together the perfect linebacker.”
sounds fantastic to me.
Way to go Weis, Way to go Irish! Cheer Cheer for Old Notre Dame!
Outstanding!
Big pickup. Now the only thing left is to go win. Without the wins, the recruiting classes dont mean a thing.
i have only one concern and maybe someone can shed some light on this for me. how does this work with his mission he will be taking? does he play this year and then go for 1 year? or does he play this year, go on his mission, and still able to come back in time for the following season(2010)? i was just wondering.
whether he turns out to be a god or just human, this is awesome just for the fact that pete carrol must be having one of his patented “fits” right now!!!
The Manti Te’o commitment is great news for Notre Dame. Unfortunately, we lost out on Jawanza Starling. He signed with USC
