According to the Detroit Free Press, Notre Dame will be receiving an official visit from 4-star linebacker and top 100 recruit Tony Jefferson.
Five schools have been tabbed by the athletic Jefferson as official visit destinations – Michigan, Oklahoma, Florida, Penn State and Notre Dame. Three of those official visits have already been set. Jefferson will visit Florida on Sept. 19, Michigan on Oct. 24 and Oklahoma on Nov. 14.
Jefferson, originally a Stanford commitment very early in the recruiting process, is being recruited by Notre Dame’s latest ace recruier, Brian Polian. Having official visits scheduled for Sept 12 and Oct 24 rule out a trip to Notre Dame for either the Michigan State or Boston College games. That leaves Nevada (Sept 5), Washington (Oct 3), USC (Oct 17), Navy (Nov 7), and UConn (Nov 21) as possible official visits to Notre Dame for Jefferson if he plans to see South Bend on a game weekend. The football banquet weekend which has used to be a bigger recruiting weekend than it has in recent years would also be a possibility. The USC weekend is already shaping up to be a huge recruiting weekend for the Irish so it would be nice if the staff could get Jefferson on campus that weekend.
Jefferson would be a great addition to this class to go along with current linebacker commitment Kendal Moore. Jefferson is a smaller, faster linebacker compared to the bigger Moore who could potentially grow into a defensive end in the future.
Jefferson, a versatile athlete, collected 88 tackles on defense while running for 1,328 yards and 28 touchdowns on offenses as a junior last year.
[UPDATE] – Shortly after I found the DRP article and posted this on the blog, Rivals.com reported that Jefferson committed to UCLA. Even though UCLA was not on his list of official visits, he had previously mentioned he would unofficially visit USC and UCLA. I guess we’ll see if he plans on taking any of his visits once more reports of his UCLA commitment come out.
