Whenever there is a coaching change, there is almost always some sort of recruiting fall out and it looks like Michigan’s loss in the wake of Rich Rodriguez’s dismissal could be Notre Dame’s gain with Michigan OT commit Jake Fisher looking at Notre Dame.
According to the Detroit News, Fisher has been in contact with Notre Dame.
“He will certainly look somewhere else,” West coach Tim Wooer said of Fisher. “We’ve been in contact with Oregon and Notre Dame. We’ve talked with both coaching staffs (Tuesday). You can throw Michigan State in there as well. He’s looking to staying close to home.
“It’s unfortunate. No one enjoyed that bowl game. Jake still loves U-M. He won’t de-commit immediately. Whoever comes in, we have to see if they want Jake Fisher as much as Rodriguez and offensive line coach Greg Frey had. Both had a strong interest in Jake Fisher.”
If Michigan hires a coach that brings with him a pro-style offense, such as Brady Hoke, Notre Dame could be in great position here since Fisher had committed to Michigan previously to play in a spread offense.
Fisher, like last year’s late offensive line addition Tate Nichols, has played tight end in high school and has the frame to grow into a tackle on the college level. Over-sized tight ends tend make very good tackles in spread offenses because of their athleticism
Here is some video of Fisher from his junior year.

This one still has a long way to go, but with a big need for another offensive lineman in this class, it’s great to see Notre Dame leaving no stone unturned. Notre Dame is recruiting Florida commitment Chase Hounshell in wake of their recent coaching change as well.
With Stanford’s Jim Harbaugh likely headed to the NFL, at least according to most reports as of Wednesday night, the last month of recruiting could get really interesting for Notre Dame.
kevhurls, Brady Hoke is a big time college coach. What he did at SDSU was big time. He may have some problems this year but watch out, this guy is a good coach. We hated to loose him. I’m big time ND fan going back to the ND vs Army, 1948. Love the Irish but watch out, Brady Hoke will make Michigan big time again.
Big Daddy – I agree. I never knew the word “desperation” started with a great, big, nasty “M” – but they do silly things up in Wolverwussy-land. I am enjoying M’s failure to adapt to a proven offense. People just don’t understand … if you want kids to win, they have to master a scheme. Richie-B-word’s offense might have given ND fits. Kids just do not master a pro-style offense. (1988 ND mastered the option, for example, as well as other non-pro methodologies) Let us hope M’s “pro-delusion” continues to be our benefit. Have the kids play a style they can master. BK’s success shows this is possible. We’ll gladly accept M’s ship-jumpers if they can play BK-ball.
The perfect storm is upon us on the recruiting front. USC is a mess with Lane. Michigan is entering into the desperation stage that ND had before Weis was hired. Stanford recruits know Jim H is bound for the pros. Urban has left a hole at FU with ND type recruits that he picked off previously in FLA.
