Hunter Bivin Commitment Adds to Weekend Haul

The first major junior day for Notre Dame in 2012 proved to be very fruitful for the Fighting Irish with Kentucky offensive lineman Hunter Bivin joining fellow offensive lineman Colin McGovern in committing to Brian Kelly and Notre Dame.

Hunter Bivin, a 6’6″, 290 lb offensive tackle recruit, became the second offensive linemen of the day to commit to the Irish and third lineman overall in this year’s class when he decided he had seen enough at today’s junior day to select Notre Dame as his college destination.

Bivin selected the Irish over a list of scholarship offers that reads like a who’s who list of college football’s elite.  Before selecting Notre Dame this weekend, Bivin entertained offered from the likes of Auburn, Florida, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Rivals, Scout, and 247 Sports all ranked Bivin as a 4-star prospect and based on the offer list above, it’s pretty easy to see why.

Bivin adds some more versatility to the line with the ability to play either tackle where most project or potentially slide inside and play guard and with three tackle recruits already committed this year, it’s likely at least one of them will get a look inside.

Offensive line was a big area of need for the Irish in this year’s class and so far Brian Kelly and new offensive line coach Harry Hiestand have done an outstanding job addressing that need and making it a priority.  Notre Dame will look to add at least one more offensive lineman in this year’s class – most likely a pure interior line prospect with Bivin, McGovern, and Steve Elmer already committed.
