The recruiting momentum Notre Dame picked up over the weekend with a trio of commitments following the Irish Invasion continued on Monday when 4-star athlete Paulson Adebo of Mansfield, Texas became the 13th member of Notre Dame’s class of 2017.

Adebo is ranked as the #14 rated athlete in the class of 2017 and just like fellow recent commitment Jordan Pouncey, Adebo plays on both sides of the ball and was recruited for different positions at different schools.  While Pouncey was recruited on the defensive side of the ball by the likes of Florida and Alabama but as a wide receiver by Notre Dame, Adebo had more offers as a wide receiver but the plan will be for Adebo to play in the defensive backfield for the Irish.

Prior to committing to Notre Dame, Adebo received offers from LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Texas, and TCU.

As a junior, Adebo hauled in 41 receptions for 730 yards and 11 touchdowns for Mansfield HS.  As a defensive back, Adebo picked off five passes while collecting over 50 tackles.

It will be interesting to see where Adebo eventually ends up and sticks at Notre Dame.  Brian Kelly has had success with similar athletic prospects by getting them on campus and trying them at different positions before finding them a permanent home.  Just look to CJ Prosise.  Prosise started his career as a safety before moving to wide receiver and then eventually turning into a 1,000 yard running back.  Prosise’s journey ended with a fourth round selection in the NFL Draft.

Adding Adebo not only helps restock the Irish defensive backfield with a corner with good size and speed, but it also gives Notre Dame another recruiting win in the state of Texas.  Adebo gives the Irish two Lone Star State members in the class of 2017 joining quarterback Avery Davis of Cedar Hill, Texas.  Both Adebo and Davis were recruited by Mike Sanford and Todd Lyght.

This latest commitment for Notre Dame is their fourth in as many days.  Florida defensive end Jonathon MacCollister started things off on Friday before being joined by another Floridian, wide receiver Jordan Pouncey.  Yesterday Notre Dame added its second commitment for the class of 2018 when Indiana native Markese Stepp committed.

  1. Best pickup during Irish Invasion. Love this kid. He could end up on either side of the ball. Hopefully on defense.

  2. Adebo is listed as 6’0″, 6’1″ and 6’2″ on various sites.

Given recruits’ “shrinkage” when they are formally measured he should still end up North of 6′.

Robertson, the safety recruit, is listed as 6’2″

Mr. Lyght is recruiting himself some “length”

And he and Jeff Burris will know what to do when coaching that length.
