Notre Dame suffered its second major decommitment for the class of 2018 on Wednesday when wide receiver Braden Lenzy unexpectedly decommitted and flipped to Oregon. Lenzy, an Oregon native, had been committed to Notre Dame since February.

Lenzy is Notre Dame’s second high profile decommitment for the class of 2018 joining Detroit area corner Kalon Gervin who decommitted earlier this spring. Gervin completely reopened his recruitment, however, while Lenzy has abruptly committed to Oregon.
With Lenzy decommitted, Notre Dame has just one wide receiver in next year’s class currently – Micah Jones.
While still a long way away from Signing Day, Lenzy’s statement doesn’t make it sound like there is much room for Notre Dame to get back into the mix. The good news, however, is that this year’s wide receiver class is STACKED and the Irish are sitting in good position with several top prospects.
Lenzy is a speedy receiver with sprinter speed unlike the massive Jones so look for Notre Dame to turn up the pressure on speed guys at the wide receiver position moving forward. Kevin Austin who is rumored to be leaning Notre Dame’s way is also on the bigger side.
It’s never good to lose a commitment – especially one from someone as talented as Lenzy. Notre Dame has a lot of time to make up for this loss however and it comes at a position that is the deepest its been in many years.
Nope, not a big loss at all. He simply would have been the fastest player on the roster by far. No biggie. We got the guy from the US Naval Academy, so it’s likely a wash.
I’m sensing some sarcasm… 🙂
The only positive in the loss is Notre Dame has time to make up for the loss. If this happened in December instead of June it would have been a devastating loss to the class. WR class is DEEP this year and Notre Dame has time to make up for the loss of Lenzy.
Can’t teach speed, Alley…..
I don’t see Lenzy as a big loss. Wish him well at O.
